Failed to find mac address 00:60:73:xx:xx:xx in the system interfaces table - 2

This is an update to my previous post - Failed to find mac address 00:60:73:xx:xx:xx in the system interfaces table - 1
First rule out that the Sonicwall device or your ISP provider is not blocking this traffic. You can enable packet capture on sonicwall device to see if the connection is being made or not or use a different machine in the same network to rule out ISP provider. In my case I was able to rule out both the above.
The way I was above to resolve this (managed to get sonicwall VPN client to work) is to uninstall the existing version of sonicwall client and then when reinstalling changed the directory path to a different folder other than C:\program Files\Sonicwall\XXXXXX.
The folder I used was C:\VPNClient and gave this folder full access to everyone. Also install the client as "Admin" , right clicking the EXE and choose "Run as Admin" option. Yes I was logged in as administartor initailly but when I ran filemon during the installation it was not able to edit the registry key even though I was logged in as the local administrator.
After the installation is done go to device manager and under Network select the virtual NIC and enable it before you configure the VPN client. And yes don't bother calling Sonicwall support. The guy I worked with was rude and hung up the ph on me LOL. He was frustrated he could not figure out the issue and started arguing with me saying how can I be sure that the firewall in not blocking the VPN traffic inspite of the firewall service being shutdown? I just did not know how to respond to that stupid question. I even volunteered to run wireshark but he would not listen.

Anyway I am not saying the above will resolve your issue but you can try and let me know if it works.

IE 9 Rant.

MS announced the release of IE9 beta today and guess what its not supported on XP. Once again the

decisions maker or makers @ MS f&%$#@ up big time. Why the hell would you decide not to support IE 9
on XP? Espically when MS is trying to recapture the browser market they lost for good. So in this economy if they are expecting companies and home users to spend $$$ and upgrade the OS to Windows 7 they are wrong. The company I am working for has 200 or more XP machines with no plans to upgrade in the near future...
Don't get me wrong I am not against MS. I am a systems and network admin working primarily in windows environment but I just can't understand why why why would you not support IE 9 on XP. Does some one needsto remind them that every 2 out of 3 windows machines out there has XP???
Well looks like this is one more reason to move to firefox, chrome or Safari. While we are moving lets also move to open office and later to ubuntu get my drift.

"People go to the Web for sites, not for the browser," Dean Hachamovitch, vice president for IE, said at a release event in San Francisco --- Really no shit.

iPad for Kids and Samsung Galaxy tab.

I had a chance to mess around with my little cousin's iPad and its really great learning tool for kids. We loaded up lot of learning aids and games for him to play with and he enjoys it a lot.

I heard Samsung is also coming up with their version of tablet called Galaxy tab.
  • 7 inch LCD display, 1024x600.
  • 1.3 mpix front and 3 mpix rear facing camera.
  • Cortex A8 1.0-GHz processor and supports HD video.
  • 16 or 32 GB storage.
  • 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
I read online that they are going to do the same like Apple + AT&T deal thing with Verizon. Come on guys are you kidding me??? and I also read that android 2.2 will not support galaxy tab. If this is true then hold off on buying this...I would not recommend on wasting money on this device.

Failed to find mac address 00:60:73:xx:xx:xx in the system interfaces table - 1

When I try to connect to Sonicwall PRO 2040 vpn appliance using GVC (Sonicwall global VPN client) I get the error below
  • The peer is not responding to phase 1 ISAKMP requests and
  • Failed to find mac address 00:60:73:xx:xx:xx in the system interfaces table
After reasearching this issue and spending coutless hours with support from sonicwall this is where I am...
  • Reinstalled the client with admin id - Did not work.
  • Turned off firewall and anitvirus - Did not work.
  • Download their tool to uninstall and reinstall the sonicwall client and change the virtual mac address - Did not work.
  • Updated the physical NIC card drivers - Did not work.
  • Installed the older version of GVC from sonicwall website as suggested by the tech support - Did not work.
At this point I am open to any suggestions out there. My OS is windows 7 and I am able to connect with a different machine from my home network so I am sure its not my router of ISP connection as suggested by the tech team.

I will update this blog if I find a solution.

'ASP 0131' and 'ASP 0196 : 80040154' errors.

Just wanted to write about my recent experience. I was supposed to configure a vendor based web ASP application on WIN3K 64 bit SP 2 server. As soon as I set it up when I went to browse the site I got an error as shown below -

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0131' Disallowed Parent Path , line 2 The Include file '../../../Test/XXXX.inc' cannot contain '..' to indicate the parent directory.

So fine it clearly says that IIS 6.0 Disallowed Parent path. So to fix this I went to HomeDir tab and clicked Configuration and in Options I checked - Enable Parent paths and tried to browse the website again. This time I get -

Server object error 'ASP 0196 : 80040154' Cannot launch out of process component /path/Path1/Path2/XXXX.inc, line 5
Only InProc server components should be used. If you want to use LocalServer components, you must set the AspAllowOutOfProcComponents metabase setting. Please consult the help file for important considerations.

But when I checked the Metabase.xml file the AspAllowOutOfProcComponents was already set to true.I am still researching this issue but I think such behavior is encountered if you are trying to run a 32 bit application on 64 bit server. The Worker process which runs in 64 bit tried to run the code and cause these errors.
Next stop try to run this code in IIS 7.0 with Worker process set to 32 bit. I think this option is available on a WIN2008 64 bit OS. If any one else came across similar issue or think I am wrong pls leave a comment.
Thanks

/passive - No input needed, displays installation progress bar.
/norestart - Do not restart after installation is complete.
/forcerestart - Restart after installation /warnrestart[time in seconds] - Warn and restart with given time (if time not given, wait 30 seconds).
/promptrestart - Prompt before restarting.
/overwriteoem - Overwrite OEM files without prompting.
/nobackup - Don't back up files necessary for an uninstall.
/forceappclose - Force running applications to close at shutdown.
/integrate - Integrate the update into the path.
/d - Back up files to specific location.
/log - Location for log file.
